Alton Johnson
Alton Johnson is the founder of Bossa Nova, The Superfruit Company. Prior to founding Bossa Nova, Johnson was a global brand manager at Harman International and led international business development for Nakamichi Corporation, a consumer products brand.
In those roles he traveled to more than 40 countries, including Brazil where he encountered açai. Intrigued by local lore surrounding the berry’s nutritional properties, he commissioned the first scientific studies to see how açai stacked up against other fruits. The findings were more than convincing: Açai’s antioxidant levels were off the charts. He next engaged leading tropical fruit scientists, and in 2005 the team brought the world’s first açai juice to market, creating the category and quickly becoming the best-selling açai juice. The team applies that same successful approach to acerola, mangosteen and goji berry, launching the world’s first full line of ready-to-drink superfruit juices in 2008.
Johnson holds an MBA from the University of Southern California, where he won the graduate business plan of the year for Bossa Nova and was awarded the Silver Cup for most outstanding entrepreneurial graduate student. Alton earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and also did a graduate degree at the Universite Catholique in France.
